Description

Biquinho is Portuguese for little beak and the chillies on this plant can be said to resemble small bird beaks.

This plant produces a mass of teardrop or pearl shaped chilli fruits which hang from the plant like small lanterns.

These popular chillies are often found preserved in jars or used on pizzas.

Ideal for sauces and salads, with fruity, aromatic flavours and a mild heat. This red-skinned type is quite a find - much rarer than the standard yellow-skinned type, it's the perfect pepper to pickle!

    A later-to-mature fruit which can help to extend the cropping season of chillies. It is not unusual, under protection, a greenhouse, conservatory or indoors using artificial light, to have good-quality fruit in November and late December - perfect for those cold nights!

    The hottest of the three most popular chilli varieties used in Mexico (Ancho, Jalapeño and Serrano) this is a fantastic variety for all sorts of culinary exploits!

    With thick and crunchy flesh these are great for slicing and dicing. That thick flesh also helps add 'bulk' if used in sauces. Great for using either green or when fully ripened to red.

    The immature fruits vary in colour from pale to dark green, but mature to a deep red - varying from 3"-5" (7.5-13 cm) in length and 2" (5 cm) wide. As a plant they can grow to around 3 feet (90 cm) tall with a similar spread.

    Vigorous plants produce a prolific and continuous crop of dark green to red, 3 inch medium-hot, thick-walled peppers that taper to 1″ wide rounded tips.  Matures to dark red.  Days to maturity are from time plants are set in growing position.

    Anaheim chilli peppers are large meaty pods that are mild in heat but sweet in flavour with large conical shaped fruits that reach between 15-20cm long by 3cm wide. They mature from dark green to a glossy dark red and have a shiny smooth skin.

    Chilli Pepper Anaheim is a Capsicum annuum which is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. This species is the most common and extensively cultivated of the five domesticated capsicums. The species encompasses a wide variety of shapes and sizes of peppers, both mild and hot, such as bell peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers. Capsicum annuum is an evergreen Perennial growing to 1m by 1m at a medium rate. It is hardy to UK zone 9 and is frost tender. It is in leaf all year, in flower from July to September, and the seeds ripen from August to October. The species is hermaphrodite (which has both male and female organs).

    Anaheim fruits are generally used at the green stage when they are very mild and are the key ingredient for 'chilli verde' & 'chilli rellinos'. Anaheims can also be used when red and are generally slightly hotter. This semi-hot pepper has a rating of between 500-2,500 Scoville Heat Units.

    The pods have thick walls and a large cavity inside so are great for stuffing, roasting and frying. They can also be frozen whilst fresh or dried so are great to keep & store for use later in the year. The plant is quite gangly and fairly tall reaching between 60-80cm and as it can be laden with a number of heavy peppers the pot may require weighting down to prevent it toppling over. An ideal chilli for those who just want a little chilli heat!

  • Increasingly popular for their many cooking uses, fresh and cooked, A red variety, making these chili plants a fantastically attractive and productive choice wherever you plant them! Early to flower, set and ripen, the chilis unusually grow point up unlike other jalapenos and are generally broader, thinner walled and slightly hotter than jalapenos when fully ripe. The conical, tapering fruit which measure about 3cm across and 7cm in length, weigh on average 18g each. Chili Pepper Fresno plants are of medium height - about 75cm - with an upright habit and as such, may require cane support.

    This variety of Jalapeno produces elliptical-shaped fruits. The fruits can be harvested green or allowed to mature to red. A characteristic ‘corking’ pattern of crack markings can develop on the skin of the fruit as it reaches full size. The plant grows upright and can reach 60cm high bearing fruit up to 7.5cm long.
